Easy to understand and follow.
By A Customer
This book was exactly what I was looking for. It is for those who attend synagogue services and hear the blessings but can't read the prayer book. I can now follow along in the prayer book and I am working on my first Aliyah in Hebrew.

Interesting concept
By A Customer
The book teaches the Hebrew alphabet (Alef Bet) by going through blessings. What's good about the book is that it teaches consonants and vowel points at the same time so that you're making sounds right away. What's not so good is that it doesn't teach you grammar. So, you can learn the words in the book, but can't make your own sentences or figure out the meaning of related words.

An Excellent Tool for Opening the Door to Hebrew
By C. J. Hardman
This book was designed as a tool to teach adults how to read and pronounce the Hebrew Alef-Bet (Alphabet) for the purpose of reading and understanding traditional prayers and blessings. I found this to be a useful guide in learning the letters of the Hebrew alphabet along with their appropriate pronounciations.

This book is simple and uncluttered. With some work, I can't imagine anyone would have difficulty using this as an aid to learn Hebrew. Certainly it will take some practice and work on the reader's behalf--notably, one should be willing to set aside some time each day for going over the letters and pronouncing them. With a few weeks practice, the blessings introduced in the latter chapters and included in the rear of the book are approachable. Also included are helpful hints for pronounciation, and the chart of the Hebrew Alphabet in block letters and script w/ Hebrew name (English and Hebrew), along with page reference for that letter.

Wise Blood: A Novel (FSG Classics), by Flannery O'Connor

Flannery O'Connor's haunting first novel of faith, false prophets, and redemptive wisdom
Wise Blood, Flannery O'Connor's astonishing and haunting first novel, is a classic of twentieth-century literature. It is the story of Hazel Motes, a twenty-two-year-old caught in an unending struggle against his inborn, desperate fate. He falls under the spell of a "blind" street preacher named Asa Hawks and his degenerate fifteen-year-old daughter, Sabbath Lily. In an ironic, malicious gesture of his own non-faith, and to prove himself a greater cynic than Hawks, Motes founds the Church Without Christ, but is still thwarted in his efforts to lose God. He meets Enoch Emery, a young man with "wise blood," who leads him to a mummified holy child and whose crazy maneuvers are a manifestation of Motes's existential struggles. This tale of redemption, retribution, false prophets, blindness, blindings, and wisdom gives us one of the most riveting characters in American fiction.

Amazon.com Review
Wise Blood is a comedy with a fierce, Old Testament soul. Flannery O'Connor has no truck with such newfangled notions as psychology. Driven by forces outside their control, her characters are as one-dimensional--and mysterious--as figures on a frieze. Hazel Motes, for instance, has the temperament of a martyr, even though he spends most of the book trying to get God to go away. As a child he's convinced that "the way to avoid Jesus was to avoid sin." When that doesn't work, and when he returns from Korea determined "to be converted to nothing instead of evil," he still can't go anywhere without being mistaken for a preacher. (Not that the hat and shiny glare-blue suit help.) No matter what Hazel does, Jesus moves "from tree to tree in the back of his mind, a wild ragged figure motioning him to turn around and come off into the dark..."

Adrift after four years in the service, Hazel takes a train to the city of Taulkinham, buys himself a "rat-colored car," and sets about preaching on street corners for the Church Without Christ, "where the blind don't see and the lame don't walk and what's dead stays that way." Along the way he meets Enoch Emery, who's only 18 years old but already works for the city, as well the blind preacher Asa Hawks and his illegitimate daughter, Sabbath Lily. (Her letter to an advice column: "Dear Mary, I am a bastard and a bastard shall not enter the kingdom of heaven as we all know, but I have this personality that makes boys follow me. Do you think I should neck or not?") Subsequent events involve a desiccated, centuries-old dwarf--Gonga the Giant Jungle Monarch--and Hazel's nemesis, Hoover Shoats, who starts the rival Church of Christ Without Christ. If you think these events don't end happily, you might be right.

Wise Blood is a savage satire of America's secular, commercial culture, as well as the humanism it holds so dear ("Dear Sabbath," Mary Brittle writes back, "Light necking is acceptable, but I think your real problem is one of adjustment to the modern world. Perhaps you ought to re-examine your religious values to see if they meet your needs in Life.") But the book's ultimate purpose is Religious, with a capital R--no metaphors, no allusions, just the thing itself in all its fierce glory. When Hazel whispers "I'm not clean," for instance, O'Connor thinks he is perfectly right. For readers unaccustomed to holding low comedy and high seriousness in their heads at the same time, all this can come as something of a shock. Who else could offer an allegory about free will, redemption, and original sin right alongside the more elemental pleasure of witnessing Enoch Emery dress up in a gorilla suit? Nobody else, that's who. And that's OK. More than one Flannery O'Connor in this world might show us more truth than we could bear. --Mary Park

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Bronson Pinchot turns in a virtuosic performance of O'Connor's darkly comic classic first novel. After serving a stint in the army, Hazel Motes finds himself adrift, alone, and rent by spiritual confusion. Pinchot's narration is superb: dynamic, well paced, and infused with a perfect Southern drawl. Instead of simply creating voices for the characters, Pinchot embodies them. His Hazel is nasty, nasally, and angry; his Enoch Emery boasts a congested twang; and the entire cast is likewise brought to life by Pinchot's precise and perceptive characterizations and his brilliant evocation of O'Conner's grotesqueries. A Farrar, Straus, and Giroux paperback. (Aug.)

Review

“This is a tale in which pathos tips into pathology and violence, answered by a penance of self-mutilation and suffering. Yet the prose is absolutely brilliant, sentence by sentence, simile by simile, and so relentlessly inventive it feels comic.” ―Marilynne Robinson, New York Times Book Review

“No other major American writer of our century has constructed a fictional world so energetically and forthrightly charged by religious investigation.” ―Brad Leithauser, The New Yorker

“I was more impressed by Wise Blood than any novel I have read for a long time. Her picture of the world is literally terrifying. Kafka is almost the only one of our contemporaries who has achieved such effects. I have tremendous admiration for the work of this young writer.” ―Caroline Gordon

"I have now reached the lunatic fringe"
By D. Cloyce Smith
In May 1952, after Flannery O'Connor published "Wise Blood" to mixed notices, she wrote to her publisher, Robert Giroux, and demonstrated her ability to take even the bad reviews with aplomb: "I have a request for a complimentary copy of 'Wise Blood' from Captain W. of the Salvation Army for their reading room and would be much obliged if you would send them a copy.... I'm always pleased to oblige the Salvation Army. According to some of the reviews you have sent me, I ought to be in it."

Throughout 1950s America--and especially in her hometown-the few readers who came across O'Connor's novel were dismayed or shocked by the its violence and its seemingly amoral characters; even two years after publication, still receiving fan letters ("what happened to the guy in the ape suit?") from the scattering of readers who liked it, O'Connor was able to joke, "I have now reached the lunatic fringe and there is no place left for me to go." A half century later, though, O'Connor has the last laugh, because the dark humor that pervades her "Southern Gothic" tale is more readily digested by modern audiences reared on films by the likes of David Lynch and Lars Von Trier

A quick and easy read, "Wise Blood" portrays a series of unforgettably creepy losers in haunting, disturbing scenes. Hazel Motes, a soldier discharged from the army because of an injury, becomes a street-corner preacher for the nihilistic "Church Without Christ" (with a congregation of one). He meets, and can't shake off, a friendless and troubled adolescent, and the two of them subsequently encounter an alcoholic charlatan who pretends to be a blind preacher and who hopes somehow to take advantage of Hazel by getting him to marry his young daughter. Eventually, Hazel acquires a congregant for his atheistic church, but the first disciple rebels and sets up his own ministry. There's so much more that happens, and I certainly won't give away the finale, but those who have already read the book will be intrigued by the knowledge that O'Connor decided how to end the novel after reading Sophocles.

There's no doubt that "Wise Blood" is an influential, memorable novel--just barely short of a classic. Even its fans agree that the book seems disjointed at times--and that's because it was cobbled together from several disparate stories. The first chapter is an expanded version of her Master's thesis, "The Train"; and other chapters are reworked versions of "The Peeler," "The Heart of the Park," and "Enoch and the Gorilla." Sometimes an author can use this approach and jerry-rig previous works into a cohesive whole, but "Wise Blood"--while surely a work of genius--still feels like a patchwork quilt. Fortunately, O'Connor's portrayal of the eccentrics who populate her fictional town of Taulkingham saves the book from the distraction of its all-too-visible seams.

Reminds me of a 14-yr-old trying to write a novel.
By Viktor Wolfe
Not good at all. The way this is written reminds me of a freshman girl in high school making her first attempt at writing a novel, and trying to be "controversial" at the same time. I don't have anything against 14-yr-old girls, but they shouldn't be writing novels. Nice try, but epic fail.

Alienating and intimate
By Kat Zeigler
Stunning beyond words. Creepy, unsettling, religious and nihilistic southern gothic. I recommend this book to anyone with an existential sense of humor and no qualms about being shocked and confused. This is a masterpiece.

Wonderful book
By R Adams
This was a very interesting read and there were many things I tagged as I read this book. Ms. Trimm compares us to diamonds and the comparison is wonderful.

Some of my favorite things from this book are below:

1. “You don’t know the stuff you are made of until you meet with a challenge.” P. 59
2. “Some people grumble that roses have thorns; I am grateful that thorns have roses.” P. 65
3. “The line has to be drawn, and you must decide on which side you will live—whether you will live an empowered life or an impotent life. I believe that we all have power but many of us give it away to things, circumstances, and people, claiming we have no control over our own choices, because somehow ‘life just happens.’ However, as Victor Frankl suggested in his classic book Man’s Search for Meaning, forces beyond our control can take away everything we possess except one thing, our freedom to choose how we will respond.” P. 76.
4. “You must resist the temptation to give up because others do not believe in who you are or in your capabilities.” P. 121
5. “Live your life out loud. Never be bullied into silence or pressured into being a nonentity. Never allow yourself to be made a victim of someone else’s insecurities. Accept no one else’s proclamations or predictions of doom and failure.” P. 123

If you are looking for some enlightment in your life and some assurance you are a somebody, this would be a great book for you to read.

I was given this book by bookfun.org for an honest review.

By Amazon Customer
“Never give up, never give up, never give up.” Cindy Trimm has gathered stories, antidotes, and quotes like this one from Winston Churchill telling how to persevere over life’s obstacles, roadblocks, rejections, and terrible circumstances in order to succeed in living out one’s life with success.

She tells the reader that “how one thinks is how one lives.” Is your glass half full of half empty? She encourages her readers to take risks, to step forward into the unknown, to follow one’s dream, and to live one’s life five years ahead of the “now.”

Cindy cites famous people from both history and present day such as Charles Colson, George Washington Carver, Serena and Venus Williams (tennis stars), Rosa Parks, Marin Luther King II, and several others as those who lived out their lives to their fullest potential. As a result of their persistence, great things were accomplished.

I recommend this book to readers who need that special boost to overcome the past as well as the obstacles and rejection they may have or are facing in order to come out on top.

I received this free book from Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

Prevail by Dr. Cindy Trimm is the third book that I have read by this author and just when I think that she has said it all, I am wrong. Dr. Trimm has the amazing ability to have you take some of your life’s most heinous and hideous events and use them to bring success and fulfillment in your life.

In this book, you will learn to turn problems into opportunities so no pitfall will throw you off course, by seeing your current challenge as a doorway to a new level of success, break through barriers that keep you from enjoying life and loving the real you, and develop a winning perspective that positions you to prosper and wake up every morning with a sense of meaning, purpose, dignity and hope.

This book, just like her others is full of sound biblical advice and strategies. As always I recommend Dr. Trimm’s book as a great resource that is to be studied, not just merely read and relegated to the shelf. You won’t be disappointed.

Chases on Aztec Pyramids, Magic, Kidnappers...it's all here!
By Mica Jade
I loved this book, staying up all night to read it cover to cover when I got it. Despite not being much of a mystery fan, I eventually read my soft cover copy of The Triple Hoax to shreds. Good stuff!

It will keep the reader wondering what will happen next.

The Triple Hoax is on of Keene's best books. When Nancy, Bess, and George visit Nancy's aunt they stumble onto another mystery. They follow a lead to Mexico, where a little girl is kidnapped. Again Nancy finds herself in another tight spot. The plot will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time reading the book.

She is also very kind and sweet to everyone she meets
By Jeff
If you want a heart racing story that you can’t put down then Nancy Drew and the Triple Hoax is for you.
The book is about Nancy, Bess, and George being told that a friend of Nancy’s aunt has been tricked by a man into paying for a trip she never got. The gang goes to solve the mystery and makes a few new friends along the way. The friends all have something in common; they all went to see a group called the Hoaxters and have had strange things happen to them ever since. The friends follow the mystery all the way to Mexico where they find a woman whose granddaughter was kidnapped after seeing the show. The gang follows the mystery from there to Los Angles where it is finally solved.
The main characters are Nancy, Bess and George. You all know Nancy. Well here are few things about her. She is very determined, and she will never give up on a mystery. She is also very kind and sweet to everyone she meets. Nancy is always up for a challenge. Bess is one of Nancy’s good friends and George’s cousin. She is a sweet girl and she loves to shop. Bess is a little bit of a fashionista. She is also very concerned about everyone. George is another great friend of Nancy’s. George is very smart and loves to joke around with her cousin. She is also very practical and sweet. The main characters in this book are just great.
I think the theme of the book is that you should help people. Nancy, Bess, and George are always helping people when they solve mysteries. I think by writing about the characters that help people Carolyn Keene is trying to tell us to help people no matter the problem. In the text when Nancy’s dad says “Perhaps you had better come home.” Nancy replies “Oh, Dad, you don’t mean that.” This means she will not give up on helping these people on their cases.
In conclusion, this book was great I give it five stars. It was entertaining and heart racing which is what I look for in a good mystery. I could hardly put it down. I might have gone to bed a little late reading. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a good mystery.

Grant Green: Rediscovering the Forgotten Genuis of Jazz Guitar, by Sharony Andrews Green

This biography celebrates the life and music of a jazz guitar genius whose legend continues to grow today. Best known as a session leader and sideman for Blue Note Records in the '60s - he played on nineteen Blue Note sessions in 1961 - Grant Green helped make jazz guitar playing its own art form. His aggressive, rhythmic tone was simultaneously fluid and eloquent, and he moved freely between traditional bop, blues, gospel, Latin, soul, pop-jazz, and funk. Hitting the spotlight at age 25, Green recorded 93 albums from the early '60s through the late '70s, both as a stellar sideman and a leader. He worked with dozens of jazz greats - Herbie Hancock, Stanley Turrentine, Art Blakey, and many others - but his overall contributions to jazz were sorely underrated during his lifetime. Today, his music is sampled by acid-jazz and hip-hop artists such as Public Enemy, Us[subscript 3], and A Tribe Called Quest, and several tribute albums have been recorded. This unique memoir honors Green's personal spirit and musical brilliance through the eyes of his family, close friends, fellow musicians, Blue Note Records staff, music critics, and loving fans of all kinds. This book also paints a revealing portrait of Green's lesser-known struggles with racial and religious barriers, failed marriages, drugs, and the declining health that led to his death in 1979 at age 43.

Amazon.com Review
During his 1960s prime, jazz guitarist Grant Green was overshadowed by rivals Wes Montgomery and George Benson, two immensely talented players who made successful forays into the pop world. But although Green passed away in 1979, the 1990s have seen a Grant Green renaissance, thanks to the birth of acid jazz, the reemergence of soul jazz, the jazz-reissue boom, and, most importantly, Green's distinctive guitar style--steeped in his R&B roots and boasting a clear, biting, soulful tone that makes him attractive to rock fans. When she met and later married Grant's youngest son, journalist Sharony Andrews Green stumbled into an admirable mission: to shed light on the life and music of her cult-favorite father-in-law. Green-the-author delivers an engaging, casual remembrance that adeptly balances many aspects of Green's life while never delving deeply into any of them. Green-the-guitarist lived in service to an uneasy triumvirate--music, Islam, and heroin--and the author, despite her ties to her subject, pulls no punches in detailing his drug habit and dark side. The book relies on heartfelt anecdotes from friends, family, musicians, and historians to tell his story and provide a clear and compelling picture of the mindset of a black jazz musician. We learn, for example, how many St. Louis jazzmen began to use heroin in admiration of Midwestern idols (and users) such as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, and how Green himself yearned for a wider audience in the late 1960s and changed musical directions in search of it (only to be even more frustrated when it did not come). The easy-going, conversational writing style mostly makes for a warm, emotional memoir, though it loses sophistication when the focus moves toward the author and her biography process. Still, adding a comprehensive sessionography, Green offers a useful primer for a talented musician, opening the door for more thorough investigations of Grant Green's unique guitar technique and stylistic innovations. --Marc Greilsamer

From Library Journal
Green, a novelist, journalist, and former daughter-in-law of her subject, offers an intimate portrait of the great jazz guitarist Grant Green. Interviewing his family and friends, she unearths the story of Green's childhood, his beginnings on guitar, his early musical success in St. Louis, and his conversion to the Muslim faith. She uses discussions with several jazz luminaries to trace Green's trek to New York, his rise to fame among the jazz cognoscenti, his prolific output for such labels as Blue Note, and his subsequent low-key career until his untimely death in 1979. Though she creates a sympathetic portrait, the author directly confronts Green's heroin habit, which led to erratic behavior and the neglect of his family. A well-written, richly illustrated book that will appeal to anyone interested in postwar jazz.ADavid P. Szatmary, Univ. of Washington, Seattle

Not many books on Grant Green
By A.C.Slater
After reading some Jazz Guitar history books and seeing Grant Green's name mentioned along with the likes of Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell and George Benson and already being a fan of their playing and being a fan of the "Hard Bop" sound I had to give Grant Green a listen. After giving Green a listen he has became my favorite Jazz Guitarist as his sense of timing and his phrasing.

The book had more information about Grant then I have been able to find elsewhere but the book opened up more questions about Grant then it told me about him. But if you try You Tubeing Green you will only find one or two videos with him in it and although he was Blue Notes house guitarist for so many years and albums there isn't much information organized by this guy.

So bottom line... I liked this book because it does have information on Grant Green that I haven't seen elsewhere but the author/writing didn't really impress me too much. So if your a Grant Green fan then I think its worth the read.

Harsh realities of the jazz business underscored
By A Customer
This often inspiring biography not only provides a concise outline of the great guitarist's life, but also underscores the harsh economic realities of the era. Drummer Elvin Jones' comments at page 112 are particularly instructive. Regarding business practices at the esteemed Blue Note record company, Mr. Jones relates, "...it was easy for the record companies to make a lot of recordings because there wasn't a big outlay as far as money was concerned...but I don't think very many of the jazz artists received any of the benefits of the marketing process...it was a life-and-death struggle all the time."
These and similar anecdotes make this biography a must reading for those interested in the realities of the jazz business.

A definitive look at the life of guitarist Grant Green
By A Customer
Grant Green was one of the finest jazz guitarists of the 1960's, a versatile player schooled in bebop who became greatly in demand for hard bop, soul jazz and funk dates; he recorded dozens of dates for the Blue Note label in the 60's, both as a leader and as a prolific sideman. After largely switching to r&b/funk by the end of the decade, his star faded. Heroin weakened his health and Green ended up dying of a heart attack in 1978 when he was 43. Sharony Andrews Green, the guitarist's daughter-in-law for a time in the 1990's, has put together the first book ever on Grant Green, a colorful biography that is quite definitive. She interviewed many of Green's relatives, friends, associates and fellow musicians. Her often conversational style is quite appealing and she tells stories from several different angles. One learns not only about Grant Green's music but the many contradictions in his religious beliefs, habits and personal life. Green comes across as a bit inconsistent in spots partly because he is seen in this biography as being many different people, depending on who is doing the reminiscing. There are some minor faults with some misunderstood names and too many pages of "Selected Reviews" at the end of the book by Tobias Jundt of Switzerland (these should not have been included at all). But there is also a complete discography, lots of new information about the guitarist's life and Sharony Green expertly separates facts from fiction, telling us more than we ever knew before about the great guitarist. A great book! One looks forward to Sharony Andrews Green's future projects.

Suprised and highly entertained
By Solomon Payne
I had followed this mini series when it was coming out in individual issues, and liked it. That was nearing 4 years ago however, and I had lost all hope of them putting a TPB together.

Until one fateful day I was down in L.A. visiting my bro, when what did I see? THIS! I was shocked, and also highly alarmed. Alarmed that no mention had been made on almost anything, and it came out totally under the radar.
Not a great way of letting Robotech fans know.

Anyway, this has all of the mini-series issues, plus some reworked artwork, rewritten dialogue, and many new pages of artwork to better flesh out the story. This is the definitive version of PtTSC, pick it up and support any other releases of the older wildstorm RT comics!

Revising a poorly written story... and still leaving it poor.
By Cray-Zee Asian
Where to begin? Robotech was not my first introduction into Japanese anime, however, it was still well, within my "developmental" years. I loved Robotech. I thought it was clever of Carl Macek to combine three separate stories and reimage them into something American viewer would comsume and come to enjoy. Although the "Second Generation" regarding the Army of the Southern Cross was the weakest link in the chain (It was also very weak in the original Japanese storyline), the series as a whole was captivating and compelling.

Then nothing. Several year passed and still nothing. Then rumors of a sequel. Then the release of a pilot episode! "Robotech II - The Sentinels!" Then more nothing. "The Sentinels" was a huge disappointment. It wasn't that the series was stillborn that disappointed me. The story was ridiculously stupid. I, along with my fellow Robotech / Macross fans, wanted to see the Zentradi homeworld, the Robotech masters' empire, the Invid homeworld, and watch the Robotech Expeditionary Forces take the fight to them!

Instead, we ended up with mediocre invasion of the Robotech Masters' homeworld by a sect of the Invid, some new villians, an a collection of aliens ranging from overgrown carebears to scantly clad amazon warrior women. I have nothing against scantly clad amazons. I rather like them, but for some reason, they just didn't fit into what I thought the Robotech universe should be like. It felt like the writers were trying to fit a bad story, made worse, by sponsors that were more concerned about selling action figures of multiple alien races, and appeal to teenaged boys in the midst of hormonal rage.

The original Robotech was fresh, new, different from American cartoons. Character development, story plots and subplots were often subtle. It made you think (at least for a few seconds). Robotech II seemed too American. It bashed you over the heads with the good guys being good and the bad guys were really, really bad. It was formulaic. Did the original Robotech follow fomula storytelling? Sure. The hero did get the girl. The bad guys were defeated, but they weren't so bad after all, at least most of them. But, sometimes, the hero girl didn't get her guy in the end. The hero made a mess of his personal life. Politics got in the way of military decisions. Military decisions got in the way of personal life. Good friends died. Victory wasn't always total.

Robotech II seemed to have completely miss the character development part and the subtleties of storytelling, was tossed on the trash heap of anime history, never to be seen again. and no one seemed to have missed it much.

Then, after more than a decade of essentially nothing, Tommy Yune steps on to the scene with Jason and John Waltrip. Jason and John Waltrip had a pretty good run with a good story in "Malcontents", and they did a good jobs, as best as can be expected, from the "Sentinels" story, both in comic book form. It doesn't take much, but it is obvious that Yune and both Waltrips love Robotech.

Unfortunately, they could not shake the malaise that Carl Macek and the writting duo that made up Jack McKinney (James Luceno and Brian Daley), left for them, especially in the Sentinel series of paperback books. With the passing of Brian Daley, James Luceno was left to spin his wheels in the mud of a bad concept and his own delusional ideas of what a space-military-government organization was supposed to be like, and what the original characters of Robotech were growing to become.

The Shadow Chronicles was a good attempt and rewritting the outcome of the Sentinels. The look and the feel were more in line to what we had come to expect from Robotech, but it was still too deeply entrenched in the foul soil of the Sentinels. Everyone who was left hanging at the end of Third Generation's Symphony of Light episode still had the same question: "What the ***expletive deleted*** happened to Rick Hunter?!!!"

We got a new enemy (Yay! More new enemies!), the Haydonites, from the Sentinels, allies that weren't really allies after all, and we still don't know the reason why. The Shadow Chronicles loosely tied the Haydonites as "the shadows" that the Invid Regis kept refering to, in the Third Generation and the Robotech Expeditionary Force as "children of the shadows".

The movie provides us with some new characters, and some old ones. On top of that, all the women in the Robotech Expeditionary Force have large breasts! From Max and Miria's youngest daughter to unnamed bridge officers. Even Ariel, the flat-chested Invid princess, now has large breasts with Gainax Bounce (tm).

Again, being a lover of Amazon warrior women, I love large, Gainax-bouncing breasts.

But come on!!! I want a real Robotech story!!! Shadow Chronicles is a very misleading name. It should have been called "Shadow Chronicle", meaning "this is all you get".

That is, until Yune and company bring you their prequel. Which, finally brings you to Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles. Whew!)

Is it a bad story? Yes and no. It rewrites the end story for the Invid Regent, Breetai, and the edgey, insane, wild, and crazy, but never boring, T.R. Edwards.

The problem with Edwards is that he was never believable as a bad guy. He's the human equivalent of Khyron (from the First Generation / Macross Series) but without the charming, likeable personality. No one would seriously follow this guy across the street, let alone into a coup d'etat halfway across the galaxy!

There are some things that the story gets right. We want to know more about the new Sentinel characters Vince and Jean Grant. It's nice to see plot involvement from decent characters. However, Vince's heroics are very reminiscent of what he does in Shadow Chronicles. The shark jumping, over the top moment is when Edwards is "helped" into an Invid Genesis Pit (tm), by Janice and comes out a huge, mutant monster! He's almost as large as a Horizon-T dropship, laser proof, and still with a mean bone to pick with Rick Hunter, tentacles and all.

Really? No, I mean REALLY?! Could we possibily try something MORE cliche? PLEASE?!!!

Seriously, did the writers just get lazy and decide to put all of their really bad ideas on a dart board? In addition, Breetai does still die with the Invid Regent, but they are killed in an even more less satisfying way than what Carl Macek and Jack McKinney came up with. The only thing "good" to come out of this is that there is no little "Roy" Hunter. Admiral Lisa Hunter miscarries, after sustaining combat injuries on the bridge of the SDF-3.

Am I taking this too seriously? After all, it's only a cartoon. Maybe, but to be fair, I didn't let George Lucas off the hook for destroying Star Wars. Yune and company did not destroy Robotech. That was done way before them, but they didn't rescue it either. All in all, "Prelude" feels a lot like "Shadow Chronicles" but in comic book form, minus the big boobs. No, seriously. Janice goes from big boobs in "Shadow Chronicles" to just noticable in "Prelude", even when she gets her new body.

Is it worth the money? If you can pick it up for under $5, I'd say you still overpayed, but hey, it's only five bucks, and you might actually think it's entertaining... maybe.

By Michael Craig Bryant
If new the robotech sega and like the robotech the shadow chronicles then this is the comic for you. Or just like action and syfy. There is alot going on behind the sences in the robotech universe that forms a frame for anything after new gen other than the t.v. series. Preculde give a better picture of this frame work. This was almost the only book that I found about ...
By Mansour Ghaffarzadeh
This was almost the only book that I found about Singapore in Jakarta when I was planning to visit for few days Singapore. Unfortunately I was not careful about the typography and the font size used in this guide. It is impossible to read this guide without a lope. Unfortunately I was not carrying a lope with me for this visit. I have brought with me other books of the same size and volume, but fully readable. Why so careless about the form?

Best way to prepare for a trip
By B. Mullady
I think Lonely Planet series books are the best way to prepare for a trip to a country or city. I've gotten used to the format and can find exactly what I want. Unfortunately, if you take a book for each country you will visit, you'll be carrying a ton of books. Best to study the books before your trip, make notes, and leave the book in your library rather than take it with you. A lot of backpackers photograph the important pages of the book and simply carry the information in their smart phones. Smart!
