Reconstructive surgery reference (textbook?)

Orthognathic surgery is surgery to correct conditions of the jaw and face related to structure, growth, sleep apnea, TMJ disorders or to correct orthodontic problems that cannot be easily treated with braces. It is also used in treatment of congenital conditions like cleft palate. Bones can be cut and re-aligned, held in place with plates and screws. Augmentation/Reduction procedures like Chin augmentation, can be complementary to the main procedure and could be performed at the same time by the same surgeon.

Currently Orthognathic surgery is mainly performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon almost always in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, often including braces before and after surgery, and retainers after the final removal of braces. Careful coordination between the surgeon and orthodontist to ensure that the teeth will fit correctly after the surgery.

In the past, plastic surgeons and otolaryngologists also performed this procedure, which is still the case in some countries; but because of their limited dental training most orthognathic surgery is now completed solely by oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Amazing! nearly everything you need in one small book!

I am a cheif resident of neurology, and have been using this book to study for my RITE exam and boards. it has every key concept convered in well organized and easy to follow chapters. If your looking for the most possible information presented in the least amount of pages in a clear, concise manner, this is a wonderful book. The figures and tables are excellent and all in color! When supplementing this book with clinical cases and more in depth references, it can be a great guidline for any medical student, neurology resident or practicing neurologist.

concise but complete, a good fast consultation book

A good pocket book, useful for quick consultation and review of the principal features of most neurological conditions.
Chapters are well organized, easy to follow and complete despsite their concision. Tables and diagrams provide a fast and efficient review of principal differential diagnosis and therapies. Its extended list of references offers interesting cues to delve into.
Useful both for medical students and residents,as companion of a more extended textbook.

I am a medical student and used this book as a review for my Brain and Behavior course. It was excellent in preparing me for clinical scenarios. It is well written and concise. The pictures are very helpful. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the Neurology field interested in an excellent reference book.

Not the one I want

I have to say that the book is not suitable for me. I felt boring when I read this book, and nothing could attract me there. However, there are plenty of detail of the daily life in this book and if you like that, it might be good for you. Anyway, the book is good for practicing English reading, but not good for entertainment I think.

good coverage of many topics

This second edition from 1988 is still useful and relevant to practicing engineers who need a quick reference to standard materials and processing steps for elastomers. There is advice on, for example, whether an elastomer is corrosive while molten or not. The former mandates the use of corrosion resistant holding containers, which can add significantly to the costs.

Another topic is shrinkage. During injection molding, once the substance cools, it can be a consideration. Suggestions are made for controlling the shrinkage, like varying the relative humidity or doing annealing of parts to relieve stress.

Then there is the issue of injection pressure. Some elastomers flow easily and need little forcing pressure. For what needs to be avoided is overpressure, which can result in overpacking and sticking in the molding frame.
