A little gay-for-pay feeling though great HEA ending!

Whitney and Meg put on a great show! I did enjoy reading it since it's classically sexy Selena Kitt, but I was slightly put out by the girls putting on a show for a group of frat guys. I love the idea of two people who love each other enjoying a public sexual encounter to feed off the energy of the crowd while they share their love. This? This was a chick convincing her best friend to mess around with her to show her boyfriend how it felt after she caught him cheating. I get men who enjoy watching lesbians together. I get people who are gay-for-pay for the adult industry. As a queer person however, when I buy a story from a series titled "Girls Only," I'm expecting to read about two women who want each other rather than about two women putting on a show for a group of men getting off on watching them touch.

It was a little uncomfortable for me in that sense.

The ending did redeem it for me so I can give it a solid 4 stars for being a sexy adult fantasy story.

I found this story to be a hoot and a half. Every girl has been scorned and wanted to seek revenge from a guy that was a total dick. Meg was livid with Ryan and managed to seal one relationship while ending the other. She used her best friend Whitney to help seek her revenge. While I don't understand the whole video game world, I do understand guys and frat parties! Meg and Whitney gave quite a show while pissing Ryan off. I found that hilarious!
This type of relationship may not be my cup of tea but I love the friendship here. They were there for each other asks discovered something great during this.
Can't wait to continue reading all that Selena has to offer.

Wonderful French grammar exercise book - recommended by my teacher in France!

This book is very appropriate for my level of French (I took no French in high school or college and I began learning French in 2008 at the College for Seniors in Asheville). In October 2015, I took a 1-week French immersion class in the Basque region of France, and this is the exercise book that my French teacher used. Everything is in French -- all instructions and exercises -- and everything is easy to understand. My husband, who is an advanced French student, said he wished that he had had this book when he was in his immersion class there, too. We plan on sharing "MY" book! Great review and explanations for: verbs (including the dreaded subjonctif), adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, direct and indirect objects, time (depuis, pour, pendant, en), and MORE! I'm very glad that I was able to locate this book online!!

The most valuable French language series available

The Grammaire Progressive du Francais series from CLE offers clear, concise and useful information, organized in a systematic way. The books are written completely in French, and build a foundation for successful communication in this beautiful and expressive language. It is particularly useful to learn how to think about grammar and literacy from the perspective of the French speaker, as opposed to trying to apply English (or your native language) rules to French. The "Grammaire Bleue," as it's nicknamed by Alliance Francaise teachers, is suitable for a language learner who has completed some high school level French. (Grammaire Jaune is for absolute beginners, and those who have strong foundation skills and want to improve their fluency can move directly to the Grammaire Verte). If you are buying this for self-study, make sure you buy the corrections book as well (Corriges) as they are sold separately. The initial exercises may seem easy, but by completing one set (reading grammar points page and doing a page of related exercises) per day, in order, you will significantly improve your abilities in three months. As a companion, working the exercises in the CLE Vocabulaire Progressive series will aide you in improving your everyday vocabulary in a cultural context.

French is my second language, which I speak to my children and use in social contexts every day. I've found that working the exercises in various books published by CLE to be quite valuable over the years in improving my written communications skills and my vocabulary.

For those who are studying French on their own, a word of advice: there's no substitute for conversation! Working the exercises in the Grammaire series will build confidence and increase fluency. However, taking a group class, taking private lessons, joining a conversation group or making a new francophone friend will force you to put those new skills to use in a practical way. Bonne chance!

All types of materials are important for variation in learning a language.

This book compiles exercises that are seemingly easy but watch out! You need an additional book that has the answers that my friend bought. I study with 2 other friends. We do the exercises on our own, then get together to read them and correct them. I would recommend this book in conjunction with conversation, writing and reading additional material in french.

This immense volume translates into clear, accessible prose the bedrock work of Iranian literature. Compiled and cast into verse by a tenth-century bard, Shahnameh contains the stories of the kings of ancient Iran before Islam overwhelmed the land in the seventh century. The first half deals primarily with mythical and semimythical figures, chief among them the great hero Rostam, while the latter half, beginning with the conquest of Sekandar--that is, Alexander the Great--records historical persons and events. In the concise, informative introduction, Davis calls attention to the entire book's recurrent themes of father-son conflict and contrast between kings and heroes, the latter of whom are nobler in character than the former; indeed, so noble that they invariably decline the throne when it is proffered to them. Davis encourages viewing both themes as reflections of a detached and critical attitude toward formal power and markers of a humane spirit that has allowed the epic to persist as the supreme classic of its nation. A Breakthrough for Ferdowsi in English

I am surprised at the reviews that mention only what is not in this edition of the Shahnameh, at the expense of what is in the book. It is well that it is not a complete, unabridged translation; the Shahnameh is one of the longest epic poems in the world, and a complete translation (which would always be a contentious claim) would run over a thousand pages. This edition is well-selected and wonderfully accessible for the modern reader of English, and contains in full most of the greatest narratives of the epic, from their beginnings to their conclusions. Dick Davis' translation into beautiful and sensitive English verse and prose is a breakthrough for Ferdowsi in the non-Persian-speaking world.

I can finally read the stories of my childhood

I was born in the US to Iranian parents, so I grew up listening to the stories from the Shahnameh, told to me in Persian by my parents and grandparents. But since I couldn't read the stories in the original Persian, I was never able to pick up a book and follow the stories from start to finish, or really put them in context. When I heard that the Shahnameh was finally available in English I rushed to get a copy. And all the stories and characters I'd learned in childhood are here! The legends of Zal, Rostam, Sohrab, Eskandar, Bahram, Mazdak, Khosrow, and Anoushirvan, and even more that I never knew were part of the Shahnameh. Reading this book as an adult, I can see the Shahnameh not just as fable but what it really is: an epic poem, a mix of myth and history, and a still-living story of a people. Dick Davis is a genius for having translated this incredibly long poem so evenly and clearly. The drama, humor, and pathos of Ferdowsi is never lost in his translation. Reading this book, there is still the sense of excitement and of having gained some kind of wisdom as when I first heard the stories of the Shahnameh as a child.

Great Perpective on Iranian History and Folklife

I bought this book on a recommendation from an Iranian friend of mine who told me that, if I wanted to get a more sophisticated and nuanced view of Iran than the current headlines would allow, I should read the Shahnameh. At the time I hadn't even heard of this book, which is a shame because I now know that it is on a par with the great epic poems of the world. In fact it is in some ways even more epic, as it begins with Creation and has an extremely wide perspective, spanning thousands of years and putting Iran in a global context as far back as antiquity, when the Persian Empire had dealings with Alexander the Great, Roman emperors, India, and China. Who knew that the Persians came to revere Alexander, or that Roman emperors kneeled in submission to Persian kings, that Persians had ventured far to the east, beyond what the greatest minds of ancient Greece still considered the edge of the earth? The Shahnameh also contains human tales of love and loyalty that are just as compelling, and it is fascinating to see the personalities of the Shahnameh sketched with precision and flair by Ferdowsi, the poet. My friend was right, and even though you may not learn much about Iran's modern history and political woes, learning about this rich and vibrant part of Iranian culture, its myths, legends, famous historical figures, is a first step to grasping more about a place and a people than two-minute news stories will ever tell you.

The book is a good book but very over priced since they no longer come with a code to access the flag page. This is very misleading that they changed this and it is very hard to know this because nothing about this is mentioned in the product description. Even in Mark's video he said that the book does come with a code. The codes are an additional $15 that you have to get from their site.

Ultimate German Beginner-Intermediate (Coursebook)

I must start off by saying that I have never had a German class, neither at any formal institution nor with a tutor, friend, or the like. Therefore, I cannot judge this text against any formal course of German.
But, I am very interested in learning languages, and have used many textbooks in the past, even some made for use in a school environment. So, I feel that I can give a fairly good critique of this book.
Out of any foreign language textbook I have used, I find that this book is, if not THE best, one of the best I have had the experience of learning a language with. I am self-taught in all of the languages I have been learning, except for three years of Spanish I took in school. Therefore, I know that textbooks need to have certain aspects to be able to be used sufficiently for self-study, and this book has them.
Although there is no CD, many resources can be found online for the pronunciation of German, and the pronunciation notes in the beginning of the book, I find, are very good ones. Therefore, I do not feel that pronunciation should be much of a struggle to learn.
I very much like the structure of the chapters in this book, and find that it works very well for learners. Each chapter begins with a Dialogue or two, and their translation(s). These are not too difficult and not too long or too short, and they are written to be able to be mostly understood based on knowledge from previous chapters. Following the Dialogue, there is a section for Grammar and Structure, which teaches material a reader has not yet learned from a previous chapter. There are then vocabulary lists and exercises, to reinforce the material. By the end of a chapter, a reader should be able to understand the dialogue, or at least almost all of it.
The book also provides review quizzes after every ten chapters, as well as practice readings written like articles one might see in the news or on a blog, et cetera.
Overall, I find that this book is a very good introduction to the German language for anyone interested, whether a student, or just a casual learner such as myself.

Excellent for a German "over-the-counter" course!

The best way to learn german is by living in a German-speaking country. If you can't do that, this course will take you a long way toward proficiency in German. BUT, I would say that the accompanying CD's are a must for the novice. I took 4 years in college, and still read German newspapers on line, but wanted something to brush up. I have used several language courses (Barron's, Pimsleur, Tell Me More, etc.) I would rank this one in the top 2. Somehow, they strike a good balance of natural conversation exposure, phrase-learning, useful vocabulary, grammar, and culture tips. They pack more into their course than most. As far as how advanced you can go with Ultimate German, they do a good job there, too. Normally, passive voice, subjunctive, and other more difficult grammar structures are either not covered by other language courses, or given shallow coverage. The Ultimate German advanced book, and even the beginner-intermediate levels cover these, and in a very natural way...much earlier on than other courses. My library had both sets. I ripped the CD's (legal) and burned them onto discs, as well as put them on my MP3. I then bought just the book on Amazon. That way, I got a great course for pennies on the dollar. I can't imagine that the "new complete course" can do much better, so I went with this last version before they changed over. Glad I did. Viel vergnügen!

It tottaly worth the price

I already read the "The Everything Learning German" (more than twice...) by Ed Swick and I would say that the Swick's book is more didactic and easy to read for a truly beginner, even though I'm still in lesson 11 in the "Ultimate German". There are some points that are said in the "Ultimate German" book that Swick's doesn't covers and vice-versa and appears also that the Swick's is more updated. But anyway, the book is a good "next-step" and a cheap one, you would spend some months to fully study it.
